Wayne Franklin “Boogie” Kuykendall (Known as Legend), age 85 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at his home after a brief illness.
Wayne was born on August 31, 1937 in Petersburg, WV and was a son of the late Loss Samuel Kuykendall and Anne Mary (Hall) Kuykendall.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel, Frederick, Melvin and Tommy Kuykendall and four sisters, Ruth Alt, Mildred Westfall, Blanche Plauger and infant Alice Kuykendall.
Wayne is survived by two sons, Roy W. Kuykendall of Petersburg, WV and Andrew Wayne Kuykendall of Inwood, WV and one daughter, Debra D. Kuykendall of Front Royal, VA; five grandchildren, Roy Jason Calhoun, Stephanie Lynn Wood, Bryan Jeffrey Shreve, Jessica Valerie Shreve and Skylar Kuykendall; four great grandchildren, Cameron Wood, Lila Brooke Wood, James Wood and Jossalyn Elaina Cullers; one brother, Donnie Kuykendall (Annabell) Kuykendall of Petersburg, WV; one sister, Patsy Webb Rohrbaugh (Gary) of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.
In 1960 Wayne worked at the Petersburg Tannery until closing in 1974. Afterwards, he was employed at Mt. Storm Power Plant (VEPCO) and worked 22 years and retired in 1996. Most recently you would find Wayne at McDonalds and Ponderosa and his second home at Golden Lanes Bowling Alley.
Wayne enjoyed country music and collected and repaired antique clocks. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially holidays.
Funeral service will be Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Mark Nicol officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
