Wayne Kelly Goldizen, age 78 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, VA.
He was born on May 11, 1946 in Petersburg, WVand was a son of the late Kelly George Goldizen and Elva Lee (Simpson) Goldizen. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one son, Joshua Tyler Goldizen, an infant grandson, Austin Neil Goldizen; two sisters, Donna Goldizen Carr and Nancy Goldizen Ours and one brother, Billy George Goldizen.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon E. (Hines) Goldizen; one son, Jeff Goldizen (Sandi) of Lahmansville, WV; five grandchildren, Amber Goldizen Miller (Jared), Adam Goldizen (Sarah), Andy Goldizen (Sarah), A. J. Goldizen (Hope) and Savannah Hope Goldizen; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Goldizen of New Port Richey, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne was employed by Allied Egry in Petersburg for several years and later retired from American Woodmark Corp. in Moorefield, WV. His love for farming and gardening was a reflection of his harmony with nature and the simple joys of life. Wayne also enjoyed hunting deer and bear. But Wayne’s life was further multiplied by the blessing of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne was a faithful member of South Branch Baptist Church in Petersburg. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and the values he embodied will continue to be a guiding light for generations to come.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 12 Noon in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Matt Perrine and Pastor Ray Church officiating. Wayne’s family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in North Mill Creek Cemetery, Dorcas, WV.
