Virginia L. (Helmick) Alt

 Virginia Lee (Helmick) Alt, age 86, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

 Virginia was born on August 12, 1935, in Dorcas, WV and was a daughter of the late George Elton Helmick and Delia Virginia (Ours) Helmick Thorne.

  In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Owen L.  Alt, Sr. on February 16, 2015; an infant son, Randall Lee Alt and two brothers, Vernon Delmas Helmick and Ray Elton “Buck” Helmick.

 Virginia is survived by two daughters, Carolyn R. Alt of Petersburg, WV and Barbara K.  Halterman and husband George of Petersburg, WV; two sons, Owen L. Alt, Jr. and Carl A. Alt, both of Petersburg, WV; one grandson, Tyler G. Halterman of Petersburg, WV; one sister, Emma Jo Bartley of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.

 Virginia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking,  canning and she received many Blue Ribbons at the Tri County Fair. She was a loving caregiver for her family and was a loving babysitter for many children.  She was a faithful member of St Johns United Methodist Church.  She was a former member of the Landes CEOS. 

 Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Please be prepared to wear face coverings at all times. 

 Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 11:00 AM at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Webb and Rev. Gary Phillips officiating.   

 Interment will follow in the Yokum Family Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
