Victor J. Cain

Victor Junior Cain, age 96 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg.

Victor was born on May 26, 1927 in Moorefield, WV and was a son of the late Sterling Phillip Cain and Ida Rebecca (Funkhouser) Cain. 

In addition to his parents, Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Mae (Hott) Cain in 2019; one son, Victor P. Cain; one grandson, Jonathan “Duke” Davidson and son-in-law, David Fertig and one sister, Shirley Cain.

Victor is survived by four daughters, Shirley Cain Helmick of Cabins, WV, Anita Cain  Haggerty (Danny) of Purgitsville, WV, Karen Davidson Fertig of Keyser, WV and Bonnie Davidson  Crites (Bubby) of Petersburg, WV; and three sons,  Galen Cain (Sherry) of Maysville, WV, Wayne Davidson of Fort Ashby, WV and Keith  Davidson (Donna) of Keyser, WV; eleven grandchildren and  twenty-four great grandchildren;  one brother, Delmar “Buzz” Cain (Mary Catherine) of Stanton, VA and  several nieces and nephews.

Victor’s early life was rooted in the values of hard work. He was a truck driver at Petersburg Blocks Inc for 40 plus years. His presence at family gatherings was not just expected but essential.  He was the heart of every celebration, the one who brought smiles with his endless jokes.  Victor’s sense of humor was infectious and his ability to lighten any mood was one of his most beloved traits. He was a Christian by faith.

Victor’s family will receive friends Wednesday, May 15, 2024  from 12 Noon till 2 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV

Funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Ketterman officiating.   

Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV.
