Verlin C. Barger

 Verlin Christian Barger, age 85, of Maysville, WV passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Keyser Healthcare Center in Keyser, WV.

Verlin was born on June 14, 1938 in Jordan Run, WV and was a son of the late Arthur George Barger and Lucy Irene (Goldizen) Barger. In addition to his parents, Verlin was preceded in death by two brothers, Harlan Barger and Donald Barger.

Verlin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice (Snyder) Barger; two sons, Richard Allen Barger (Susan) of Scherr, WV and Leon Wayne Barger (Lisa) of Maysville, WV; one daughter, Phyllis Belle-Oudry (Matthew) of Swansboro, NC; three grandchildren and three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell Barger (Ilene) of Dorcas, WV and Roger Lee Barger (Rettie) of Maysville, WV; two sisters, Florina Vance ( Harold) of Maysville, WV and Rosalee Mongold of Maysville, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Verlin attended Petersburg High School. His first job was a timber cutter and worked at the charcoal plant in Maysville. He was employed at the former Eastern Building Supply in Petersburg for many years.  He and his wife operated the Barger Greenhouse for 26 years.  He was known for his work on small engine repairs. He was a member of the Jordan Run Union Church.

Verlin’s family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

Funeral service will be Sunday 2 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Bergdoll and Pastor Lynn Rohrbaugh officiating. 

Interment will be in Maysville Cemetery.
