Timothy "Tim" Thorne, Sr. Obituary

Timothy “Tim” Dean Thorne Sr., 67, of Petersburg, WV entered into the loving arms of his Lord on Friday, December 5, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, with his family faithfully by his side. Born October 22, 1958, in Arlington, VA, he was the son of the late Conway Curry and Helen Rose Berry Thorne.

Tim grew up with a strong sense of purpose and integrity. A proud graduate of Petersburg High School, Class of 1977, he continued his education at Northern Virginia Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He devoted 37 years of loyal service as a Deputy Sheriff with the City of Alexandria, VA—work that reflected his commitment to protecting others, his deep respect for community, and his dedication to provide for his family.

Faith, family, and simple joys shaped Tim’s life. He cherished riding his motorcycle, listening to preachers at all hours, and settling in to watch his favorite westerns. He loved hunting, horses, and the faithful companionship of his dog, Spike. Tim was a devoted member of the Brake Covenant Brethren Church of Petersburg and the Virginia Sheriff’s Association. Yet above all, nothing meant more to him than his family—especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his world.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Donna Kay Kimble Thorne, whom he married on May 25, 1979; his four children, Amanda Thorne-Dye (James) of Maysville, Timothy D. Thorne Jr. of Fairmont, Curran Thorne (Wendy) of Clarksburg, and Elisabeth Thorne of Petersburg; three treasured grandchildren, Emma Dye, Curran Thorne II, and Quinn Thorne; and one brother, George A. Thorne of Petersburg; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Regina Tavenner.
