Ret. DNR Sgt. Stephen Dale Rexrode, age 74, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
Steve was born December 23, 1946 in Harrisonburg, VA and was the son of the late Virgil Henry Rexrode and Myrtle (Propst) Rexrode.
Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rosanna “Jenny” (Leatherman) Rexrode; two daughters, Amy (Rexrode) Berg and husband Marty of Petersburg, WV and Cynthia (Meek) Hartman and husband Danny of Petersburg, WV; two sons, Robert Rexrode and wife Rachel of Woodruff, SC and Mike Meek and wife Michelle of New Creek, WV; nine grandchildren, Lucas Berg, Emma Berg, Henry Rexrode, Graham Rexrode, Taylor Meek, Nick Meek, Maiah Hartman, Shawn Rohrbaugh and wife Miranda, and Tiffany Cooper; five great grandchildren, Cayden Cooper, Chloe Cooper, Morgan Jones, Madaline Rohrbaugh and Sadie Rohrbaugh.
Steve was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1964 and attended Potomac State College in Keyser, WV. He took part in the Korean Conflict and was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Life member and Commander of Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454. He was a member of American Legion Post 78, Petersburg, WV. Steve was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Franklin, WV and attended Knobley Church of the Brethren, New Creek, WV.
Steve was a Life member of North American Hunting Club, NRA, West Virginia Hunter Educations Association and was a West Virginia Hunter Education Instructor. He was instrumental in implementing the Jennings Randolph Lake Challenged Hunt. Steve was the local law enforcement firearms qualifications instructor and the Petersburg Municipal Judge and Petersburg High School Assistant Golf Coach.
Family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be Sunday 1:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating.
Please be prepared to adhere to all CDC guidelines, including face coverings and social distancing at all times.
Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, WV with Military Honors by Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454, West Virginia Air Force Honor Guard and DNR Honor Guard.
