Sara Katherine (Ayers) Ketterman, age 92 of Petersburg, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.
Sara was born on October 29, 1931 in Dorcas, WV, and was a daughter of the late William Lester Ayers and Frony Velma (Mongold) Ayers. In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil E. Ketterman in 2015; three infant children, one daughter, Brenda Ketterman Campbell; one son, Virgil Steve Ketterman; daughter-in-law, Roberta Gail (Davy) Ketterman; two sons-in-law, Bobby E. Mongold and Tony Curtis Wimer; one great granddaughter, Olivia Katherine Miller; and two brothers, Virgel Lee Ayers and Richard Ayers; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Tristan.
Sara is survived by one son, Gary A. (Denise) Ketterman of Petersburg, WV; three daughters, Betty S. Mongold of Petersburg, WV; Sara Jean Wimer of Maysville, WV and Phyllis (Clayton) Laub of Petersburg, WV; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; two brothers, William “Pete” Ayers of Dorcas, WV and Lester “June” Ayers and several nieces and nephews.
Sara was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known as “Maw” who made the best gravy and bread. She enjoyed gardening, canning and tending to her flowers. She was a member of the Brake Covenant Brethren Church and attended Elkhorn Chapel. She was an honorary member of the Maysville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.
Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11 AM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Vance Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Brake Cemetery at Dorcas, WV.
