Russell D. Strait, Jr.

Russell “Rusty” Davis Strait, Jr, age 73, of Lahmansville, WV died on   Friday, December 20, 2019 at his home.

Rusty was born and raised in Albany, Oregon and was the son of the late Russell D. Strait, Sr. and Saronalee (Shimp) Strait.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Gail Strait.

He is survived by his cherished wife Nina Strait, sister Jerrilee Schwab, daughters Kellie Pressel and Stacie Jessen, and best friend Don Rankin.

Rusty was a US Navy Veteran having served in Viet Nam on the USS Boxer.  He was awarded the Purple Heart for sustaining injury and the Navy Cross for valor in combat.  Rusty moved to St. John in the Caribbean as a peacetime sailor and worked in the charter boat industry.  He and Nina shared a love of the Caribbean people, landscape, water, and sailing.  Rusty moved to Alexandria, VA where he and Nina married in 1988. They built a home and retired in Lahmansville, WV in 1992 where they shared another love of the land, lifestyle, and people.

Rusty will be greatly missed by family and friends throughout the country who will remember his smile, wit, ingenuity, grace, and wisdom.
