Roy E. Hendrickson

Roy Ellsworth Hendrickson, age 76 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. 

 Roy was born on June 22, 1946 in Cumberland, MD and was the son of the late Henry Ellsworth Hendrickson and Evelyn (Smith) Hendrickson.

Roy married Debra L. Moyers on September 18, 1970 who survives. Also surviving two daughters, Michele Lynn Sherman of Petersburg, WV and Nikki Lee Pansch (Kevin Pansch) of Petersburg, WV; five grandchildren, Nicholas Green, Katie Green, Jaxon Sherman, Sidney Lahman and Slade Lahman; two step grandchildren, Ryan Pansch and Trevor Pansch.            

Roy was a graduate of Petersburg High School class of 1964.  Roy was a Medic in the  United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a life member of Potomac Highlands VFW 6454 and American Legion Post 78 of Petersburg, WV.  He was employed by Allied Egry until the closing and later for Laurel Run Mining.  Roy retired from Department of Motor Vehicles in Moorefield, WV.  Roy was a member of Petersburg Masonic Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M.

Roy enjoyed his family and spending time with the grandchildren. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors.  Roy loved attending old car shows and driving his 1968 Camaro with sweetheart Deb.  He also enjoyed designing and building two daycare centers in Petersburg and Moorefield.  (Teddy Bear Daycare and Little Peeps Daycare).

Roy’s family will receive friends Saturday from 5 – 7 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 1 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Daryl Dunsmore officiating.  

Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV with Masonic Graveside services by Petersburg Lodge No.145 A.F. & A.M. and  Military Honors by the Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
