Roland Hummel Grapes, age 89 of Cabins, WV departed this life on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
Roland was born on November 19, 1931, in Hampshire County, West Virginia and was a son of the late Edward Harvey Grapes and Iva Churchill (Wolford) Grapes.
In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two brothers, Olin Grapes and Allen Grapes; two sisters, Claris Shumaker and Evelyn Cooper;
Roland is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy L. (Southerly) Grapes; three sons, James Grapes of Deep Creek Lake, MD, Mark Grapes of Maysville, WV and Ronald Grapes and wife Crystal of Cabins, WV; two daughters, Linda Smith of Cabins, WV and Jessica Hughes of Kingsport, TN; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Kisner of Martinsburg, WV.
Roland was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He served in the Army National Guard of Maryland and served in the Air National Guard in Martinsburg, WV. He was a member of American Legion Post 64 of Moorefield, WV.
He was a self-employed Radio-TV technician. He owned and operated Maysville General Merchandise and North Fork Community Store for several years. He was a member of Petersburg First Baptist Church.
Military Graveside Service will be Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Tearcoat Cemetery, Augusta, WV with Pastor Rick Bergdoll officiating.
