Roger Swick Obituary

 

Roger Lee Swick, age 69 of Petersburg, WV went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Roger was born on April 8, 1952 in Cumberland, MD and was a son of the late Corbett Liberty Kimble and Wilda Virginia “Jennie” Swick.  In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Herman Taylor, Jr. and David Lee Taylor; several aunts and uncles including John and Irene Nelson.

Roger is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy (Taylor) Swick, one daughter, Valerie S. Glover and husband Jason of Bridgeport, WV; two grandsons, Austin Joseph Blake and Conner Lee Blake and one step granddaughter, Madison Glover;  five brothers-in-law, Bobby (Deb) Taylor of Purgitsville, WV, Byron “Peanut” (Sandra) Taylor of Rig, WV, Raymond (Joan) Taylor of Burlington, WV, Johnny (Becky) Taylor of Purgitsville, WV and Pastor Brad (Terri) Taylor of Petersburg, WV; four sisters-in-law, Molly Wolfe of Petersburg, WV, Martha (Steve) Wolfe of Moorefield, WV, Nellie (Greg) Delawder of Moorefield, WV and Pat (Sam) Bean of Moorefield, WV; and numerous cousins.

Roger graduated from Petersburg High School in 1971.  In March 1972 Roger began his mining career at Laurel Run Mining Company and retired in 2010  from Robinson Run Mining in Shinnston, WV after nearly 38 years.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. 

He was an active member of Rig Assembly of God Church.  Roger’s desire was to witness about Jesus and winning the lost to the Lord.   

The scripture  II Timothy 4 :7- 8  is a summary of Roger’s life, “I have fought the good fight and I have finished the race and I have kept the faith; and finally there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord the Righteous Judge will give to me on that day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

There will be a private burial, but a Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Rig Assembly of God Church with Pastor Brad Taylor officiating.
