Robert "Bob" Dettinburn Obituary

 

Robert “Bob” Vance Dettinburn, age 78 of Petersburg, West Virginia passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia with his family by his side. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harold V. and Elizabeth (Feaster) Dettinburn. 

Bob was born and raised in Petersburg, West Virginia and graduated from Petersburg High School Class of 1964. He attended Potomac State College and West Virginia University for business and marketing. Bob assisted for many years with the operations of the Dettinburn Trucking INC. He then went on to assist in operations for Bowman Trucking in Stephens City, Virginia. Bob later went on to obtain his real estate license and was a successful real estate agent for Mountaineer Log and Siding at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland.

Bob was an avid, enthusiastic outdoorsman from boyhood on, he was known for his love of fishing on the North Fork and was an adept angler. Bob enjoyed most of his life hunting in the beautiful hills of West Virginia and surrounding areas.  He was also an expert bird watcher.  In his spare time, you could find Bob playing pool at the local pubs, he was quite the expert. Bob was president of the Ruffed Grouse Association for several years and enjoyed grouse hunting with his beloved dog Ruffy. In his later years Bob settled into his log cabin home on the North Fork in Cabins, West Virginia, which he was most proud of. He enjoyed watching the deer and wildlife from his front porch. Bob will be deeply missed by many and forever in our hearts. He will be remembered for his humor and unwavering spirit. 

 Bob is survived by his children, Nicole King and husband Ted of Rawlings, MD, Robert Vance Dettinburn II, and wife Erin, Cumberland, sisters Ronda Kaye Dettinburn and Charlotte D. Stonestreet, husband Ronnie, all of Petersburg, his niece Tamara K. Sites and husband Reggie, Lahmansville, West Virginia, niece, Monica Fortino and husband Michael, Keyser, West Virginia, grandchildren Emma Stratton, and wife Holli of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sarah Stratton and Rowan Sweitzer, of Cumberland, Canyon and Torin Dettinburn of Cumberland, his great nieces Lindsey Sites and Chloe Fortino, and great nephew Anakin Fortino. 

Bob's wishes were to be cremated with a private family service at a later date.
