Richard L. Hughes

Richard Lynn “Dick” Hughes, age 79, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Dick was born on October 25, 1942 Richford, NY and was a son of the late Joseph Weed Hughes and Marjorie Irene (Marshall ) Hughes.

Dick started his career in the shoe business at an early age, doing extensive traveling throughout the world.  He retired from Stanbee Company in Carlstadt, New Jersey.

Dick served in the United States Army Reserves from 1960 – 1968.  He was a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge in Pennsylvania. He also was a member of the Masons (Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America).  He was a member of the Cornerstone Family Fellowship. 

Dick is survived by his wife Peggy (Stump) Hughes; four sons, Keith Hughes of Mechanicsburg, PA; David VanMeter (Michele) of Elkins, WV, J.D. VanMeter (Amanda) of Petersburg, WV and Raymond VanMeter (Melody) of Moorefield, WV; two daughters, Gwen Moyers (Mike) of Maysville, WV and Christy Nesselrodt (Bradley) of Mathias, WV; Eleven grandsons and six granddaughters; three great grandsons and one great granddaughter; one sister JoAnn Hurley (Donald) of Birdsboro, PA and one brother Terry Hughes (Sharon) Grayson, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be Friday, October 21, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Family Fellowship, 1516 Lunice Creek Highway, Petersburg, WV with Pastor P.J. Landis officiating. 

Burial will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg with Military Rites by Grant County Veterans Organization.
