Ray Elton Helmick

Ray Elton “Buck” Helmick, age 86, of Petersburg, WV passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 at his home.  He was born February 2, 1932 in Dorcas, WV and was a son of the late George Elton Helmick and Delia Virginia (Ours) Helmick. 

In addition to his parents, “Buck” was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Treva Mae (Sirbaugh) Helmick on February 15, 2006; one brother, Vernon Delmas Helmick.

“Buck” was a master carpenter and was a member of Franklin Church of God.  He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.  He was an antique collector and loved music and dancing. 

He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Collier of Harrisonburg, VA, Darlene Houston of Locust Grove, VA and Carol Jean C. J. Dove of Martinsburg, WV; one son, Ray Elton R. J. Helmick of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two sisters, Virginia Alt and Emma Jo Bartley both of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews. 

Friends will be received from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.

Funeral service will begin at 1:30 PM Sunday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Borror officiating.  Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, WV. 

The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
