Phyllis R. (Alt) Waddy

Phyllis Romaine Waddy, age 89 of Petersburg, WV went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.   

Phyllis was born on May 19, 1935 at Landes, WV and was a daughter of the late Pinkney “Pink” Alt and Cleo (Cook) Alt.  In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Alt.

  Surviving Phyllis is her loving husband of 64 years, John Harman Waddy. They were married on May 1, 1960. Also surviving one daughter, Beth Harman Waddy; one son, William Wade “Bill” Waddy IV and wife Norma; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Levi) Holler, Ethan (Brittany) Ours, Allison (Kyle) Burgess, MariAnn Waddy and William Waddy V; eight great grandchildren, Anniston Ours, Korbin Burgess, Braylin Ours, Kain Burgess, Kreed Burgess, Byron Holler, Lou Holler and Ensley Ours; one sister, Venus Stump of Baltimore, MD.  

 Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Petersburg High School. She was a cashier at the former A & P Store in Petersburg during the 1950’s and 1960’s. She was a lifelong farm girl and homemaker. Her joy was taking care of day-to-day operations on the farm and spending time with her family and grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Another joy was attending the Alt and Kimble Reunion every year. She was known for her thoughtfulness throughout the community. Phyllis was a faithful member of Bethel Church of the Brethren where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School nearly 60 years. She enjoyed gospel music.

 A Private Graveside service and burial will be in the Harman Family Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
