Paul D. Parsons

Paul David Parsons, age 90, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. Paul was born on January 31, 1932 in Masonville, WV and was a son of the late Jessie Columbus Parsons and Nettie Susan (Mongold) Parsons. 

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife Doris Jean (Harman) Parsons in June 29, 2022; one daughter, Patty Lynn Parsons in 1967; an infant grandson, Benjamin Franklin Berg II; an infant great grandson, Caleb Lee Goldizen; two sons-in-law, Benjamin F. Berg and Eugene A. Cook;  one sister, Stella Kesner, two brothers, Ernest and William Parsons; two half -brothers, June and Fred Parsons; two half- sisters, Peggy Cosner and Martha Houdersheldt. Paul was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Paul is survived by one son, Randy (Melina) Parsons of Petersburg, WV; three daughters, Karen Berg Cook of Maysville, WV, Beverly (Jim) Tompkins of Petersburg, WV and Paula (Todd) Smith of Fairfield, VA; two grandchildren, Kimberly (Tim) Goldizen and Dakota Parsons; four step grandchildren, Anna Tompkins, Kenny Tompkins, Curtis Tompkins and Katie Smith Cox; three great grandchildren, Felicia Goldizen, Joshua Goldizen and Mikayla Goldizen; two step great-grandchildren, Lucy Garcia and Sunny Tompkins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul was a farmer and owner and operator of Parson's Repair Shop.  Paul took pride in everything he did.  Perhaps nothing gave him more pleasure than the success he had in the garden.  He had a wonderful ability to take the totally broken and make it usable again.  If he did not know, he would “study on it” until he did know.  Paul was an avid reader and hunter.  Paul was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church.

Paul’s family will receive friends Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 5 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

Funeral service will be Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11 AM in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Larry A. Hakes officiating.

Interment will be in the Kline Cemetery, Upper Tract, WV.
