Otha “Oce” Woodrow George, age 86, of Petersburg, WV went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2024, surrounded by family at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Oce was born on September 6, 1937, in Petersburg, WV, and was the son of the late Pearl Eston George and Ella Katherine Kuykendall George.

In addition to his parents, Oce was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mabel Irene Combs George, on April 26, 2023; one sister, Evelyn Self; six brothers: James George, Sr., Ernest “Satchel” George, Harold George, Sr., Clifton “Joe” George, Merlin “Midge” George, and Junior Eston George.

Oce is survived by two sons, Terry (Roxanne) George of Rig, WV, Mike (Susan) George of Petersburg, WV, and one daughter, Debbie (Richard) Bennett of Petersburg, WV.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren:  Terry “Dude” (Erica) George, Ashley (Nathan) Cleaver, Johanna (Jami) Rohrbaugh, Brittany (Matt) Porter, Mikala (Eric) Harman, Brandon (Kylie) George, and Tara George and thirteen great-grandchildren who were the light of his life:  Emily and Lacey George, Nadia and Bianca Cleaver, Addaleigh, Evaleigh, and Zadik Rohrbaugh, Ava Porter, Macynn and Emilia Wilt, Caspian Bennett, Otha and Brooks George, one step-grandson Ashley (Jennifer) Miller and two step-great-grandsons Hunter and Bentlee Miller. Oce is also survived by one brother, Donald George of Petersburg, WV, one brother-in-law Roy “Squirt” (Sue) Combs, of Bunker Hill, WV, and several nieces and nephews. 

 Oce served 1954 -1956 in the Army National Guard. He formerly worked at V. R. Mowry Trucking, the WV Department of Highways, VEPCO, and retired from Grant County Disposal Services. Oce enjoyed coaching and playing baseball.  He loved watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in recent years.

 Oce’s family will receive family and friends at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastors Harold and Cheryl George and Pastor Brian Henson officiating. The burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and WV Army National Guard. 

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Petersburg High School (for Softball and Baseball programs), 207 Viking Drive, Petersburg, WV 26847 (Memo: Oce George).
