Neal Alt

Edwin Neal Alt, age 75 of Winchester, VA and formerly of Petersburg, WV passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Neal was born on January 21, 1947 in Petersburg, WV and was a son of Eulala (Shreve) Alt of Petersburg, WV and the late Stanley E. Alt.  In addition to his father, Neal was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Alt; 

Neal is survived in addition to his mother Eulala Alt; his wife of 53 years, Dixie (McGinnis) Alt; three sons – Shawn Alt and wife Trina of Philippi, WV Scott Alt and wife Jodie of Stephens City, VA  and Steven Alt and wife Jennifer of Winchester, VA; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Wolfe, Cameron Alt, Dakota Alt, Matthew Alt, Hannah Alt, Brynnan Alt and Cara Kirk; two great grandchildren, Kennedy Alt and Cora Wolfe; one brother, Don Alt and wife Karen of Petersburg, WV; one niece, Jenny Turner and  one great nephew, Quentin Turner and one great niece Ameilia Turner.

Neal was a graduate of Petersburg High School class of 1964. After graduation he served in the United States Army.  After returning home he worked for Allied Egry in Petersburg, WV until 1992 and later retired from Berryville Graphics in Berryville, VA. 

Neal was a long-time member of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company, he also was a member of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Department in Winchester, VA.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 78 of Petersburg, WV.  Neal also was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg. 

 Family will receive friends Monday, May 9, 2022  from Noon till 2 pm. Funeral service will begin at 2 pm in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger A. Harrison Sr. officiating. The Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company will provide the Fireman's Funeral Procession to South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg. 

Military Honors will be accorded by the Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Osiris Shriners, 91 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV  26003.
