Nancy L. (Harman) Roby

Nancy Lee (Harman) Roby, age 83 of Petersburg, WV passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Nancy was born on January 7, 1941 in Cabins, WV and was a daughter of the late Fred William Harman and Thera Mae (Lahman) Harman.  In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Roby in 1974 and one brother, Freddie Harman, six brothers-in-law, Carl “Buzz” Cooper, Sr., Jim Rotruck, Charles Roby, Isaac "Ike" Roby, Roger Roby and Bradley Roby and sister-in-law, Beverly Roby Cecil. 

Nancy is survived by her two sons, Mark A. Roby and wife Tiffani of Middletown, MD and Fred I. Roby and wife Kelly of Petersburg, WV; five grandchildren, Ashley Cleaver and husband Nathan, Cassiana Roby-Kesner and husband Ryan, Freddie Roby and wife Kayla, Haleigh Roby and Kelsie Propst and husband Aaron; two step grandchildren, Vanesa Harper and Drew Harper; six great grandchildren, Nadia and Bianca Cleaver, Kash and Kade Kesner, Shepherd Propst and Ziggy Benson; two sisters, Peggy Cooper and Penny Harman both of Cabins, WV; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Rotruck and Martha (Richard) Hawk; six nephews, Todd Harman, Rusty Cooper, Patrick and Jeffrey Hawk, Clem and Bill Roby; two nieces, Becky Haslacker and Amie Rotruck, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Nancy was a 1958 graduate of Petersburg High School. Nancy was a licensed Cosmetologist and later retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. She was a 65-year member and Past Matron of Petersburg Chapter #146, Order of the Eastern Star and Past Grand Officer of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia. Nancy was a member and Past President of Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Landes CEOS Club. She also was a member of the Grant County Historical Society and member of Petersburg’s Church Women United. Nancy was a faithful member of Cabins Assembly of God Church.

Nancy had a great sense of adventure. She loved to canoe, dance and travel. She also loved attending any activity that included her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of her favorite things was to be involved in her community. 

Nancy’s family will receive family and friends on Friday from 5:00 -8:00 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. The Petersburg Eastern Star #146 will conduct services Friday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.  

Funeral service will be Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Coleman Clark officiating. 

Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
