Melvin Bruce Rohrbaugh, Sr., age 80, of Maysville, WV, went to be with his Lord Jesus on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, WV.
Melvin was born on May 26, 1944 in Onego, WV, and was a son of the late Edgar Lewis Rohrbaugh and Lucy Mae (Feaster) Rohrbaugh. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Reed) Rohrbaugh on April 6, 2019; one sister, Betty Jean Rohrbaugh, and three brothers, Oscar Blake Rohrbaugh, Edgar Gay Rohrbaugh, and Dwight Elmo Rohrbaugh. Melvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Melvin is survived by his son, Melvin Bruce Rohrbaugh Jr. (Jamie) of Chattanooga, TN, two daughters, Carolyn S. VanMeter (Paul) of Maysville, WV, and JoAnn Ketterman (Billy) of Maysville, WV, as well as three beloved grandchildren, Tammy Ayers, Samantha Delawder, and Elijah Rohrbaugh, and two great-grandchildren, Daphne Ayers and Sophia Thorne, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin was a lifelong farmer, having lived on his family farm since he was one year old. He loved working on the land and had a special love for animals. He also worked as a carpenter for Archie and Jerry Veach Construction, and later for Dale Kimble Construction.
Melvin was quiet and soft-spoken. He loved his family and had a funny sense of humor. He loved gospel and bluegrass music and loved getting together with others to play songs in various nursing homes. He also enjoyed having neighbors stop by to visit or play music. Melvin loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Falls Assembly of God Church, where he attended all his life.
Melvin’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 6 - 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 11 AM at Falls Assembly of God Church with Pastor Vivan Watts officiating. Interment will follow in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
