Melva J. (Turner) Cornette

Melva Jean Turner Cornette age 87 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Melva was born on July 20, 1937 in Upper Tract, WV and was a daughter of the late Gabriel Harrison Turner and Edna Jane (Carr) Turner.

In addition to her parents, Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. “Jack” Cornette in 2001; two sisters, Eleanor Turner Thompson and Ruth Turner Simmons; three  half -sisters, Martha Mongold, Bertha Turner and Nellie Smith; one brother, Paul Turner;  two half-brothers, Harman Turner infant Glenn Turner.

Melva is survived by one step-daughter, Vivian Leigh Bagwell of Norfolk, VA; two step grandsons, Matthew Bagwell and wife Tracy and Danny Bagwell; step great granddaughter, Olivia Bagwell; three sisters,  Kathryn Van Meter of Petersburg, WV, Rebecca “Becky” Miller of Petersburg, WV and Virginia “Jenny” Pancake and husband Brad of New Creek, WV; one brother,  Evers Turner and wife Nancy of Upper Tract, WV and half-brother, Ralph Turner of Roanoke, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melva retired from American Woodmark Corp in Moorefield, WV.  She was a member of the Petersburg Church of God.  Melva had a special love for her cats. 

Funeral Service will be Monday, September 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Noel and Pastor Matt Smith officiating.  Melva’s family will receive family and friends from 11 AM till time of service at 1 PM.

Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
