Mary Lou (Crites) Hardy

Mary Lou (Crites) Hardy, age 88 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at E.A. Hawse Health Care Center in Baker, WV.

Mary Lou was born on December 12, 1935 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late Jesse Edgar Crites and Ruth Mae (Shook) Crites.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Hardy in 1996; one daughter, Barbara (Hardy) Landes; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hardy; son-in-law, Sherman Batman; seven sisters, Virginia Messoria, Jessie Iman, Neva Massimo, Thelma Crites, Diana Sherman, Wanda Sears and Lenora Crites; four brothers, Elwood, Keith, Elmer and Darl Crites.

Mary Lou was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary Lou is survived by

    Two sons:  Eric Hardy (Darby) of Petersburg, WV

                      Brad Hardy of Petersburg, WV

    Two daughters:  Catherine Batman of Belington, WV

                               Chris Henry (Donald) of Ludington, MI

    Son-in-Law, Eddie Landes of Capon Bridge, WV

    Nine Grandchildren:  Bradley, Nick, Colton, Lacey, Annette, Amanda, Patrick, Jay and Tracy

    Six Bonus Grandchildren, Brody, Blair, Logan, Fallon, Dillon and Nevaeh

     Sixteen Great Grandchildren

     Ten Great - Great Grandchildren

Mary Lou’s last employment was with Potomac Valley Transit in housekeeping. Mary Lou was like a second mother to the neighbor children. She enjoyed cooking and quilting. She spent Friday’s with her grandson Colton at QH Design where she enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Mary Lou was a member of Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Petersburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. 

Graveside service will be private due to limited parking at the Crites-Eye Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date.
