Macie June (Mowery) Van Slyke, age 86 of Mozer, WV went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.
She was born April 6, 1934 in Kline, WV and was a daughter of the late Chester Claude Mowery and Annie Viola (Lough) Mowery.
In addition to her parents, Macie was preceded in death by five brothers, Warnie Lee Mowery, Virgil Walter Mowery, John Newton Mowery, Claude Mowery and Connie Edward Mowery and one granddaughter, Talia Kristen Mongold.
On June 21, 1957 Macie married Gerald Wayne Van Slyke at the United States Naval Chapel in Washington, DC. Surviving besides her husband, two daughters, Jean Patricia Mongold of Mozer, WV and Nancy Lee Smith of Woodstock, VA; three grandchildren, Jordan Wayne Mongold and wife Victoria, Tiffany Smith and Luke Smith; four great grandchildren; one sister, Hester May Williams of Dayton, VA; and her faithful furry companion of 14 years, her dog Ginger.
Macie was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1953. Following graduation, she worked for the FBI in Washington, DC for 5 years. She was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church where she served as Superintendent for many years. She was also a member of the Five Churches United Methodist Women’s organization, Petersburg Garden Club, Extension Homemakers Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was past treasurer of the Treasure Mountain Festival Association.
Macie was an experienced cake decorator having made more than 121 wedding cakes along with numerous birthday and anniversary cakes in her 50 year career.
Due to the present health concerns, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the Lough Cemetery at Mozer, WV with the Rev. David Webb and the Rev. Rita Beeman.
