Mac B. Porter

Mac Bowen Porter, age 76 of Maysville, WV passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, VA.

 Mac was born on January 4, 1949 in Cumberland, MD and was a son of the late Macker Woodrow Porter and Martha Kathryn (Sherman) Porter.

 In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Elaine Shell. 

 Mac is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Waybright) Porter; four sons, Chad Porter (Monica) of Proctorville, Ohio, Seth Porter (Ashton) of Beckley, WV, Ike Porter (Rabeka) of Petersburg, WV and Matthew Porter (Brittany) of Petersburg, WV; four grandchildren, Aiden Porter, Ava Porter, Asher Porter and Bodhi Porter and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

 Mac was a 1966 graduate of Petersburg High School. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked in the coal industry for 34 years and finished his career with Mine Safety Health Administration as an instructor. His passion was working on the farm, riding his Farmall tractor, hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a member of Baker Sod Hunting Club and Old Stoney Hunting Club. Mac was a member of North Mill Creek Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Petersburg Masonic Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M.

Mac’s family will receive friends on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

A Military Memorial service will begin at 4 PM with Pastor Brian Henson and Pastor Bradley “Duke” Thorne.

Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Army Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
