Mabel I. (Combs) George

Mabel Irene (Combs) George, age 83 of Petersburg, WV went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.

Mabel was born on June 22, 1939, in Needmore, WV and was the daughter of the late William Hall Combs and Orlena Wilson Combs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Combs, Donald Combs, Austin Combs, and three sisters, Lola Combs Rohrbaugh, Pauline Combs Pratt, and infant sister Helen Combs.

Mabel is survived by her husband of 65 years, Otha “Oce” George, two sons, Terry (Roxanne) George of Rig, WV, Mike (Susan) George of Petersburg, WV, one daughter Debbie (Richard) Bennett of Petersburg, WV, and one brother Roy (Sue) Combs of Bunker Hill, WV. Mabel is also survived by seven grandchildren, Terry “Dude” (Erica) George, Ashley (Nathan) Cleaver, Johanna (Jami) Rohrbaugh, Brittany (Matt) Porter, Mikala (Eric Wilt) Harman, Brandon (Kylie) George, and Tara George and twelve great-grandchildren she loved dearly, Emily and Lacey George, Nadia and Bianca Cleaver, Addaleigh and Evaleigh Rohrbaugh, Ava Porter, Macynn and Emilia Wilt, Capsian Bennett, Otha and Brooks George, one step-grandson, Ashley (Jennifer) Miller and two step great-grandsons, Hunter and Bentlee Miller. Mabel is also survived by one sister-in-law, Jenny George and two brothers-in-law, Donald George and Junior George, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She formerly worked at Sites Restaurant, Monarch Mills, Foodland, A & P, and 7-11 all of Petersburg, WV where she was well- known and loved by all of her customers.  Mabel loved spending time with her family, cooking meals, and baking cakes for every birthday. She adored her cat, Emma, and watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball.

Mabel’s family will receive friends at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg Friday from 5 -8 PM.

Funeral service will be Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastors Harold and Cheryl George and Pastor Brian Henson officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
