Luther P. Alt

Luther Paul Alt, age 80 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV.

Luther was born on January 22, 1943 on Middle Mountain, Landes, WV and was a son of the late Glenn Evers Alt and Dora Alice (Judy) Alt Moyers.

In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by an infant son, Lucas Alt, one daughter, Nora (Alt) Swick; one infant great granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Houser; two brothers, Glenn Alt, Jr., Vivan Alt and Owen Alt, who was like a brother; half -brother, Joe Moyers.

Luther is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cleo (Muhlenkort) Alt; three daughters, Loretta L Miller (Mike) of Bunker Hill, WV, Patricia A. Thompson (Ray) of Petersburg, WV and Karen J. Howes (Joe) of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Rebecca Houser (Richard), Timothy Tritapoe (Amanda), Hailey Howes and Hannah Howes; nine great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Charlene Alt, Cindy Alt and Ruth Tomlin; two nephews, Blaine Alt and Glenn Alt, III, one niece, Denise McCracken; one half- sister, Shirley VanMeter;  three half-brothers, Alfred, Gary and Roger Moyers.

Luther began working for Cardwell Rug and Carpets in Arlington, VA and later was owner of Alt’s Carpet Service in Petersburg for over 40 years.  Luther and his brother Vivan operated the 76 Service Station in Petersburg for a few years. Luther and his wife Cleo owned and operated a farm from 1985 -1999. Luther was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Petersburg.

 According to Luther’s wishes, all services will be private.
