Louise (Barr) Vance

Elva Louise (Barr) Vance, age 93 of Petersburg, WV passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at her residence in Petersburg.

Louise was born on September 22, 1932 in Rada, WV and was a daughter of the late Edward Lee Barr and Hazel Elizabeth (Sites) Barr. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar J. Vance in 1987; son-in-law, O. Bradley Cook; one sister and brother-in-law, Wilda and Bill Kimble; one brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Kitty Lou Barr; and brother-in-law, Randall Turner.

Louise is survived by one son, Edgar Allen Vance and wife Gale of Petersburg, WV and one daughter, Debra V. Cook of Petersburg, WV; three grandchildren, Nathan Cook and wife Tabitha, Savanna and Shalee Vance; and three great grandchildren, Kyler Cook, Karter Vance and Kolson Riggleman; three step great grandsons, Eric, Trey and Dante Cooper and one step great-great grandson, Emerick Cooper; two sisters, Irene Webster and husband Vernon  of Moorefield and Linda Turner of Petersburg, WV; three brothers, Harvey Barr and wife Janet of Petersburg, WV, Carl Barr and wife Arvella of Shepherdstown, WV and Wayne Barr and wife Gail of Laurel, Delaware and several nieces and nephews.

Louise was a 1951 graduate of Petersburg High School and went on to pursue her passion for caring for others by attending nursing school at King's Daughters Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Her commitment to her community was evident as Louise began her nursing career in 1954 at the Veach & Townsend Clinic in Petersburg. Over the years, Louise touched the lives of countless patients across various other doctor’s offices. Her career, which spanned six decades, was marked by devotion and excellence, culminating in her retirement in 2014. Louise’s passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Louise was a member of Petersburg First Baptist Church.

 Louise’s family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday 11 AM, December 30, 2025 at Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Shannon Earle officiating. Interment will follow in North Mill Creek Cemetery, Dorcas, WV.
