Lemuel R. Whetzel

Lemuel Ray Whetzel, age 88 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Nella’s at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Elkins, WV.

Lemuel was born on February 20, 1935 in Landes, WV and was a son of the late Isaac Harvey Whetzel and Violet Leona (Nazelrodt) Whetzel. 

In addition to his parents, Lemuel was preceded in death by his wife, Arvella (Turner) Whetzel in 2007; one brother, Herman Whetzel; three nieces and four nephews.

Lemuel is survived by four brothers:  Arthur (Dorothy) Whetzel, Ervin Whetzel, Isaac Whetzel Jr., and Delmas (Shirley) Whetzel all of Petersburg, WV, one sister, Leota (Whetzel) Riggleman of Petersburg, WV; a special cousin who was like a son, Bryson Junior Shirk and his wife Alice of Petersburg, WV and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Lemuel served in the United States Army. He worked for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Petersburg for 17 years and later for Allegheny Wood.  He was a member of Brake Covenant Church in Petersburg, WV.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 14, 2023  from 6 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023 in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Craig Howard officiating. 

Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
