Kevin Mongold Obituary

Kevin Wayne Mongold, 48, of Keyser, West Virginia, formerly of Maysville, passed from this life on November 1st, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. Kevin was surrounded by the comfort, care, and love of his family.

Born on June 17, 1977, Kevin was the son of Ronnie Wayne Mongold and Cathy Rose Harman. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Jonathan Mongold, sister Miranda Mongold, daughter Hannah Secrist, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.

Kevin proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, he worked as a skilled carpenter, always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Known for his lively, outgoing, and friendly nature, Kevin brought warmth, laughter, and kindness to every task and friendship.

An avid outdoorsman, Kevin found peace and joy in hunting and fishing, where he was surely closest to God and nature. His family takes comfort in knowing that he has found eternal peace in the tall timber of heaven, where many of his friends and family await.

The family extends their most heartfelt appreciation for the love, support, and care provided by the many friends, relatives, and medical staff who stood by Kevin and his family during this time.

A Military Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 10 AM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Denny Moyers officiating.

Military Honors will be given by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and United States Army Honor Guard.

Kevin's family will receive friends one hour prior to services and after the service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree in Kevin’s honor so that the great outdoors, where he found joy and solace, may continue to thrive for the enjoyment of others like himself. When planting, please reflect upon the words of Isaiah 55:12 —

“For you shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
