Kathleen M. (Helmick) VanMeter

Kathleen Mae (Helmick) “Kate” VanMeter, age 84, formerly of Burlington, WV passed away Thursday. October 13, 2022 at Stonerise Nursing Home in Keyser, WV.

Kathleen was born on February 28, 1938 in Upper Tract, WV and was a daughter of the late Hughie Alfred Helmick and Nina Violet (Alt) Helmick. 

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” VanMeter in 2010; three sisters, Dorothy Helmick Van Meter, Mary Ellen Helmick Moyers, and Wanda Lee Helmick Brill; three brothers, Berkley Helmick, infants Stanley and Lloyd Helmick.

Kathleen is survived by one daughter, Angie VanMeter of Maysville, WV; four grandchildren, Janice Smith of LaVale, MD, Melissa Van Meter (Michael) of Maysville, WV, Stacy Dolly of Petersburg, WV and Haise Clinton Dolly of New Creek, WV; eight great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister, Rose (Helmick) Hines (George) of Petersburg, WV one brother Jim Helmick of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.

  She enjoyed gardening, flowers and preparing special meals for the family.

Family will receive friends Sunday from Noon till 1:30 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Graveside service will be 2 PM at Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, WV.
