Karen L. (Nelson) Keplinger

Karen Lucille (Nelson) Keplinger, age 84 of Maysville, WV went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Keyser Health Care Center, Keyser, WV surrounded by her children.

Karen was born on February 13, 1939 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late Edgar Nelson and Viola Catherine (Harman) Nelson.  In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her husband, O. Vernon Keplinger in 2019.

Karen is survived by two sons, Gregory V. (Libby) Keplinger of Maysville, WV and Kevin N. (Maria) Keplinger of Mount Storm, WV; two daughters, Dr. Lynn E. (Dr.John Whited) Keplinger of Cary, NC and Lori K. (Norman) Kuykendall of Maysville, WV; seven grandchildren, Nathan Keplinger, Bryer Keplinger, Aaron Keplinger, Mariel Keplinger Tichnell, Daryl Keplinger, Cameron Carr and Leah Carr; two step granddaughters, Whitney Wilfong and Kinsey Wilfong; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar H. (Delores) Nelson of Winchester, VA, Ernest “Ernie (Sandy) Nelson of Cabins, WV and Donald “Duke” (Janet)Nelson of Cabins, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Karen and her husband were lifelong farmers and owners of Keplinger Lime Company Inc. for 43 years. She was a faithful member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church where she taught the adult Sunday School class for 35 years.   

Our Mom loved her birthday and we are beyond blessed that she gave up her dreams of becoming a Julia Childs, a landscape architect, an interior decorator, a writer or a designer to the stars. Instead she made countless sacrifices to carry the title of …….Mom and job title of Domestic Engineer.   

Family will receive friends Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home and a funeral service will begin at 1 PM with Pastor Lynn Rohrbaugh officiating. 

Interment will follow in Maysville Cemetery.     

Memorials may be made to Gideon's International or Charity of Choice.
