Junior Smith

John Junior Smith, age 85 of Maysville, WV passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV.

Junior was born at home in Cabins, WV on September 8, 1939, and was a son of the late John and Nellie (Kile) Smith. In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Smith, Dick Smith and Don Smith and three sisters, Maxine Smith, Betty Hefner and Phyllis Fritz.

Junior is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine (Keplinger) Smith; one daughter, Dana Keplinger ( Skeet) of Maysville, WV and one son, Jeffrey “Snipe” Smith ( Robin) of Maysville, WV and two granddaughters, Kayla Kuh (Terry Sam) and Lorna Doran (Phil); two great grandchildren, Kaydan and Lane Kuh; one sister, Lucy Taylor of Petersburg, WV and three brothers, Carrol Smith (Norma) of Dorcas, WV, Charles Smith (Joan) of Petersburg, WV and Thurman Smith (Linda) of Keyser, WV. Also surviving several nieces and nephews.

Junior was a member of the Maysville Volunteer Fire Company since 1965.  He served on the Maysville Cemetery Committee and was a volunteer for Cancer Relay for Life and Grant County Nursing Home. He was a former member of Potomac Valley Men’s Choir and member of Brick Covenant Brethren Church. 

Junior worked for Southern States in Petersburg and Allied/Egry and Allegheny Dimensions. After retirement, Junior helped with funeral services at Schaeffer Funeral Home for several years.

Junior’s family will receive family and friends on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6   – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.

Funeral service will be Friday, October 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Cosner officiating.

Interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery.
