Joseph Patrick McGinley, age 82 of Petersburg, West Virginia, peacefully passed away June 5, 2021, after a long illness, at the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, West Virginia.
Joseph Patrick McGinley was born March 27, 1939 to Rex and Margaret (Mulcahy) McGinley in Chicago, Illinois. They moved to Albion, Indiana the July following Joe’s birth.
Joe’s parents both preceded him in death; his Mother in 1960 and his Father in 1965. Joe was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward, who was killed in action in Brest France during WW2; a sister, Ruthie Hiatt in 2005, and a sister, Peggy in infancy.
Joe married Viola Cathern (Kesner) Cripe in Fort Wayne, Indiana in July of 1978. He is survived by his wife’s children: Kathy Ellen (Cripe) Crone; Robert Russell Cripe, Jr.; Deborah Sue Cripe and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wife’s son, Michael Richard Cripe proceeded him in death.
Joe is survived by his sister Catherine (Weldon) Mawhorter of Albion, Indiana.
Joe is also survived by many nieces and nephews who grew up spending lots of time with Joe. Joe took them on adventures they would have missed out on had he not been around. They grew up loving their Uncle Joe.
Joe was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Albion, Indiana and later a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, Indiana.
Joseph was honorably discharged from the United States Marines.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Father Dan Peisano. Family will receive friends from 12 Noon till time of service at 2 PM on Wednesday.
Interment will follow in the North Mill Creek Cemetery, Dorcas, WV with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Marine Corps Honor Guard.
