John Randall “Randy” Miller, 59, of Chesapeake, Virginia, formerly of Maysville, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2025, in Suffolk, Virginia.
Randy was born on December 20, 1965, in Wheeling, West Virginia and was son of the late Ervin “Lee” Miller and Katherine Schenerlein.
Randy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Teresa “Terri” Miller; his children, Jared Miller (wife, Melanie) of Edenton, North Carolina, Katelyn Miller of Chesapeake, Virginia, and John Western of Cumberland, Maryland; his brother Chris Miller of Wheeling, West Virginia; his mother-in-law, Emma Jo Bartley of Petersburg, West Virginia; as well as his beloved dog, Jake.
Randy was a 1984 graduate of Petersburg High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1987 and was a Gulf War Veteran. He was a 32-year employee of Newport News Shipbuilding, where he worked as a nuclear pipefitter.
Randy’s favorite place in the world was the North Fork River, where he spent countless days fishing for trout, or waiting for a big buck on Snowy Mountain. On most weekends, he could be found joking and laughing with his family on the beaches of the Outer Banks, and Taco Tuesday was always a must. His many nicknames including “Donut” and “Big John” are a testament to how he impacted everyone he met with his big personality.
Randy’s family will receive friends on Monday, May 5th, 2025, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Schaeffer Funeral Home.
A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm in the chapel with Minister Jon Leininger officiating.
A burial will follow at Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville, West Virginia with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
As a devoted father, Randy was working diligently to ensure his daughter could graduate with her degree in Early Childhood Education. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions can be made to Katie’s college fund by mailing to the Miller Family at 532 Aylesbury Drive, Chesapeake, Virginia 23322.
