John D. Layton

John Doyle Layton, age 68 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. 

 John was born on July 15, 1957 in Keyser, WV and was a son of the late David Franklin Layton and Elma Gail (Carr) Layton. 

John is survived by two sons, Casey D. Layton and wife Jessica of Fairmont, WV and Cody K. Layton of Fairmont, WV; two grandchildren, Carter and Elowen Layton; three sisters, Celia Jean Constable, Tammy Lynn Biddle and Cynthia Marie Morton; two brothers, David W. “Bill” Layton and Robert Layton and several nieces and nephews.

John was a graduate of Keyser High School. He was a truck driver for years traveling over a million miles covering nearly every state in America. John was a lover of animals and enjoyed farming and taking care of his livestock. His passion was spending time on Cave Mountain where he could always be found.

 John’s family will receive friends on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 12 noon till 2:00 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

 Funeral service will begin at 2 PM with Pastor Calvin Redman officiating.

Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
