John Edge Obituary

John W. Edge lost his battle with cancer on May 3, 2021, at his residence in Lahmansville, WV.  John was born on October 6, 1947 in New York, NY, the son of Festus Erwin Edge and Dorothy Byrne Edge.

At 17 he enlisted into the U. S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California.  John served two tours in Vietnam where he was a tail-gunner on a med-vac helicopter and an Aviation Electrician's Mate.  John was an Ironworker by trade and a member of Local 580 Ironworkers in New York City.  John, who was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, loved his country and was incessantly proud of having served in the military.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lucretia Goldizen Edge; two brothers, Ernie (Marilyn) Edge and Gary (Henry) Edge; two daughters, Kimberly (Lucas) Curry and Aurora (Simone) Terranova; one son, Brian (Steffi) Edge; five grandchildren, Timothy Michael (Amelia) McCormick, Kaitlin Marie (Johnny) O’Brien, Samantha Lynn Edge, Austin Robert Edge and Benjamin Alex Rotter; one great-granddaughter, Blakely Marie O’Brien, and one great-grandson due to arrive in July.

John loved life to the fullest.  He loved his family, his friends and his union brothers with all his heart and soul and would do anything in his power to protect them.  He loved to laugh and to make others laugh.  He moved permanently to WV in 2007 and it quickly became his home.  John loved to cook and celebrate and instilled that in all whom he encountered.  He loved the mountains, the sunrises, the sunsets, and the WVU Mountaineers.

John donated his body to the Human Gift Registry at WVU.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11 AM at Lahmansville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Luke McKenzie and the Rev. Ann Harrison officiating.  Family will receive friends from 10 AM till time of service.  Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Grant County Veterans Honor Guard.
