Joann Julie (Barr) Alt

Joann Julie (Barr) Alt, age 68, of Petersburg, WV passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Mrs. Alt was born on May 2, 1950 in Keyser, WV and was a daughter of the late Eldridge Walter Barr and Grace Mae (Shockey) Barr.  In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Allen “Buck” Alt on August 9, 2014; one daughter, Jackie Timbrook; an infant brother, Charles David Barr; five half sisters, Mary Susan Rohrbaugh, Naomi Lee Barr, infants, Lilly, Ramona, and Hazel Barr.   

 Joann retired from Grant Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department after 26 years of service.  Joann was Baptist by Faith.                

Mrs. Alt is survived by two grandchildren, Katherine R. (Shawn) Shreve of Keyser, WV and James Allen Timbrook of Petersburg, WV; two great grandchildren, Fredrick J. Crocker and Gracelyn M. Crocker; six sisters, Bonnie Barr of Moorefield, WV, Diana Barr of Rig, WV, Phoebe (Ralph) Hinkle of Fisher, WV, Velma (Bob) Cullers of Petersburg, WV, Shirley (David) Weese of Old Fields, WV and Judy Moyers of Petersburg, WV; two brothers, Tommy Barr of Rig, WV and Butch Barr of Moorefield, WV; two half brothers, George (Betty) Barr of Petersburg, WV and Carl (Charmain) Barr of Fall Church, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  A funeral service will begin at 11 AM Friday at Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Crislip officiating.  Burial will be in the Kessel cemetery at Kessel, WV. 

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
