James Leroy Sindledecker Jr., age 87 of Scherr, WV passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his home. James was born on December 16, 1937 in Great Cacapon, WV and was a son of the late James L. Sindledecker, Sr and Rose Evelyn (Butler) Sindledecker. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Rosalie Sindledecker Shackelford.
James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon J. (Phillips) Sindledecker; three daughters, Sharene Sindledecker of Lake Alfred, FL, Jamey Hough (Matt) of Jacksonville, Fl and Shannon Ervin (James) of Bruceton Mills, WV; two sons, Jason L. Sindledecker of Fairmont, WV and Shawn L. Sindledecker (Eileen) of Scherr, WV; nine grandchildren, Abby (Austin) , Peyton (Hailey), Montana (Sarah), Adeline, William, Cannon, Ezra, Colton and Jobie; four sisters, Sue Nuzum of Fairmont, WV, Linda Simon of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary Long (Al) of Alabama and Debra Dicken of Fairmont, WV and one brother, Jack Sindledecker (Cindy) of Fairmont, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was a 1956 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He attended Marshall University where he played football. He served in the United States Army and later graduated from Fairmont State College. He began his teaching career in Spencerville High School in Spencerville, Ohio where he taught Industrial Arts. He later moved to Grant County and finished his teaching career. James was a member of the Petersburg Lions Club.
James was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to float the river in “Priss”. He loved coaching sports and watching his children and grandchildren play. James will be most remembered for his woodworking skills and custom craftsmanship. He loved spending time with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Arul Anthony. Inurnment will follow in the Kessel Cemetery, Kessel, WV.
