James J. Hughes

James Joseph Hughes, age 93, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Saturday,

March 28, 2026 at Cortland Acres Health Rehabilitation in Thomas, WV.

Mr. Hughes was born on November 20, 1932 in Belleville, NJ and was the son of late Joseph Hughes and Augusta (Burkhart) Hughes. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth (Mead) Hughes, Jacqueline (Stewart) Hughes and Betty (Spicer) Hughes and four brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Hughes is survived by one daughter, Elaine Hughes of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, three grandchildren, Michael, Martin and Tiffany and two great grandchildren, Emma and Luther and one sister, Theresa D’Alessandro.

Mr. Hughes was a United States Combat Army Veteran of the Korean War.  He retired from General Motors in Clark, NJ after 39 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Petersburg, WV.

In honoring Mr. Hughes wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no services.
