J. Ward Teter

Joseph Ward Teter, age 82 of Seneca Rocks, WV passed from this life on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at his home. 

Ward was born on August 15, 1940 in Teterton, WV and was a son of the late Zola Lee Teter and Ella Frances (Long) Teter. In addition to his parents, Ward was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Teter, Jerry Teter and Bruce Teter.

Ward is survived by two daughters, Diana (Teter) Gracia of Jackson, NJ and Renee Teter of Barboursville, WV; two grandsons, Josh Downing of Elkins, WV and Christian Gracia of Jackson, NJ; one sister, Dorothy Louann Teter Smith of Seneca Rocks, WV; special friends, David Downing, Junior Sites and all crew members of West Virginia Paving. 

Ward was a lifelong farmer.  He served two years in the Merchant Marines transporting cargo via water routes all over the world.  Ward worked 58 years for Armstrong West Virginia Paving.  

Ward’s family will receive family and friends Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 4 – 7 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 2 PM at Onego Christian Church (formerly known as Seneca United Methodist Church) with Preacher Greg Adamson officiating. 

Burial will be in Teter Family Cemetery, 1148 Lower Timber Ridge Road, Seneca Rocks, WV 26884.
