Iva Marie "Susie" Bland

Iva Marie “Susie” Bland, age 63, of Petersburg, WV went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 6, 2020.

“Susie” was born on April 2, 1957 in Elkins, WV and was a daughter of Gereald W. Bland and Virginia (Summerfield) Bland of Petersburg, WV.

“Susie” is survived by her parents, Gereald and Virginia Bland and her son, Wilton Fredrick “Freddy” Bland all of Petersburg, WV and her sister, Iris Cofield of Dade City, Florida and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

“Susie” graduated from Petersburg High School in 1975.  She attended Wheeling Business College, Shepherd College and South Branch Vocational School.  After dedicating her life to the welfare and health of other people, “Susie retired, due to illness, from the Human Resources Development Foundation (H.R.D.F.)

 Her favorite pastime was baking Irish breads and pies. She enjoyed singing at The Old Country Store Opry.  Her favorite songs included “This Song’s Just for You”, “The Best is yet to Come” and Irish Ballads.  Her favorite animals were dogs, especially the German Shepherd and the Dachshund.  A devout Christian, “Susie”would say, “I don’t care if God gives me a mansion or a log cabin in Heaven, just so it has a front porch with a swing and rockers”.

“Susie” was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Sampson and Leotha (Whiting) Bland and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Elva (Hedrick) Cooper. 

Her favorite scriptures were II Cor. 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing  rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. “

Rev. 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 99, Seneca Rocks, WV  26884 or The West Virginia Innocence Project, or The Elmwood Cemetery Project of Shepherdstown, WV or charity of the Donor's Choice.

Due to the present health concerns, there will be no public visitation.  All services and interment will be private.
