Irene M. (Turley) Alt

Irene May Turley Alt, age 91 of Patterson Creek Road, Petersburg, WV, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Irene was born on November 17, 1933 in Moorefield, WV and was a daughter of the late Elwood Newton Turley and Rose Anna (Bowman) Turley. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband H. Keith Alt in 2004 and two sisters, Patti Gapp and Linda Raines.

Surviving are her son, Wayne K. Alt (Joy Shuttle) of Midlothian, VA and daughter, Tammy L. Judy (David Judy) of Petersburg, WV; two grandchildren, Kendra L. Mayle (Daniel Mayle) and Melissa K. Wimer (Chris Wimer); five great grandchildren, Raylan Mayle, Wyatt Mayle, Paxton Wimer, Maverik Wimer and Bristol Wimer; two sisters, Frances “Pudy” Leatherman of Old Fields, WV and Sue Sager of Moorefield, WV and several nieces and nephews.

 Irene was a graduate of Shepherd College. She was employed at Joan Curtis Manufacturing and Windsor Knit Manufacturing in Petersburg, WV. She also worked in the cafeteria at the Grant Memorial Hospital. Irene was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Petersburg Chapter #146 for 43 years. She was a Worthy Matron 1986-1987 and Grand Warder 2014 -2015.

Irene’s family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 6:00 -8:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  There also will be an Eastern Star service conducted by members of Petersburg Chapter #146 and Franklin Chapter #138 at 7:00 PM.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Shannon Earle officiating.

Burial will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV.
