Hilda C. (Hines) Mauzy

Hilda Catherine (Hines) Mauzy, age 80 of Petersburg, WV died on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at her home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. 

Hilda was born on May 18, 1942 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late Virgil J. Hines and Vina C. (Kuykendall) Hines. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two nephews and two brothers-in-law.

Hilda is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Curtis D. Mauzy; two daughters, Angie (Bruce) Ours  and Jenny (Ronnie) Sites all of  Petersburg; four grandchildren, Ashton (Seth) Porter of Beckley, WV, Erin Hedrick, Lacee (C.J.) Kesner and Casey Sites all of Petersburg; five great grandchildren, Jaslyn Shook, Jylee Nelson, Jaxston Nelson, Asher Porter and Parker Kesner; one sister, Sharon (Wayne) Goldizen of Petersburg, WV; four brothers, Wayne  (Betty) Hines, Clyde (Eileen) Hines, George (Rose) Hines and Gary (Sabrina) Hines; one brother-in-law, Edward Mauzy; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Mauzy, Rosalie Kesner and Dottie Ketterman and several nieces and nephews.

Hilda was a graduate of Petersburg High School class of 1960. She worked at various businesses with her retirement at the Grant County Nursing home after 30 years of service. She was a Christian by faith and a member of Living Hope Baptist Church where she served on several committees and taught VBS.  She also had a passion for the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. She always had a servant’s heart to help anyone in their time of need. She loved to cook for family and friends, especially her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed traveling and vacationing with her family. 

Family will receive friends Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 5 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. 

Funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, June 27, 2022 in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Smith and Pastor Mark McAllister officiating. 

Interment will be in the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV.
