Hellen R. (Sites) Smith

Hellen Rebecca  (Sites) Smith, age 82 of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025  at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg.  Hellen was born on June 14, 1942 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late Marvin Edgar Sites and Elsie Virginia (Vance) Sites. 

In addition to her parents, Hellen was preceded in death by her husband, George William “Toon” Smith in 2023 and an infant grandson, Tyson William Smith; one sister, Rosetta Mae Sites Smith and six brothers, Learl Sites, Jesse Sites, Lysle Sites, Chester Sites,  Johnny Sites and Norman Sites.

Hellen’s family was the centerpiece of her life.  

She is survived by ---

     One daughter, Gail M. Shockey (Mike) of Petersburg, WV

 Four sons:

     Ronald L. Smith (Lori) of Maysville, WV

     Lester W. Smith (Valerie) of Petersburg, WV

     David W. Crites (Amber) of Petersburg, WV

     Daniel J. Crites (Brittany) of Petersburg, WV

 Eight Grandchildren – Jordan (Cassandra) Shockey, Hannah Shockey, Lance Smith,  Isabella Crites,  Isaiah Crites, Bentley, Cheyenne and Caisom

 One great granddaughter, Sophia.

Two sisters:  Carol (Leroy) Skiles of Petersburg, WV and Joyce Ketterman of Warren, Ohio              

Numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A proud 1961 graduate of Petersburg High School, Hellen dedicated her life to her family. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy and purpose in the simple, yet profound acts of cooking, baking, gardening and canning. Hellen was a salesclerk at Monarch Mills in Petersburg for several years and later retired from S & S Decorators in Petersburg, WV. Hellen attended the Moorefield Assembly of God Church. 

Hellen’s family will receive friends Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 30th at 11 AM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Wade Armentrout and Pastor D. J. Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
