Helen Clara Hyre, age 96, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at her home. Helen was born on December 5, 1925 in Hardy County, West Virginia and was a daughter of the late Ottie Stoke Hardy and Bernice Ethel (Barr) Hardy.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. Borror in 1965 and Bruce E. Hyre Sr. in 2011; an infant daughter Gail Borror; one son David Zane Borror; two grandchildren, Lauren Hyre Rodgers and D.J. Borror; two brothers, Howard and Lysle Hardy; three sisters, Jane Riggleman, Norma Hiser and Lura Evans.
Helen is survived by one son, Richard N. Borror Jr. (Shelby) of Petersburg, WV; one daughter, Sandie Metzger of Petersburg, WV; one step- son, Bruce “Icky” Hyre Jr. (Mary Cay) of Petersburg, WV; one step daughter, Jane Fleming of NC; four grandchildren, David (Connie) Borror of Petersburg, WV, Kevin (Stacey) Borror of Aurora, CO, Aimie (Bryan) Keplinger of Moorefield, WV and Nicholas (Maria) Borror of Morgantown, WV; twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Victor Hardy (Betty) of Fisher, WV and Carl Hardy of Petersburg, WV; one sister Annalee Graham of Fort Ashby, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was a graduate of Moorefield High School class of 1944. After her first husband’s death, Helen was left raising their three children and became a working mom. She worked in the Grant County Clerks office and also was a receptionist in Dr. Robert’s surgical office in Petersburg. In 1969 Helen remarried and became a peach farmer. She loved her family and caring for them. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning (even this past summer) and taking care of her home and she was an avid reader. Helen was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of United Methodist Women and a member of Petersburg Church Women United and was chosen as the Valiant Woman in 2002. She was one of the original members of Grant County Homemaker’s Club. (now CEOS).
Funeral service will be Friday, December 9, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Grove Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Hakes officiating. Helen’s family will receive friends from 11 AM till time of service at 1 PM.
Interment will be in Newhouse Cemetery, Rig, WV.
