Helen Boor Obituary

                                               

Helen M. Boor of Petersburg, W.V.  was lifted to her place of rest with Jesus on April 27, 2020 at age 95. 

Helen was born on September 12, 1924 to Augusta and Austin Smith in Petersburg, W.V. and was one of eight children in the Smith family. 

Upon graduating from high school in May 1942, Helen got married to John “Jack” L. Boor, Jr. and was married for 66 years.  Helen and Jack, Jr. had two sons and three daughters.

Helen and Jack, Jr. owned and operated the Smoke Hole Cabins business for 10 years plus Helen had a career working as a bank teller for 18 years with Potomac Valley Bank in Petersburg, W.V.  Although Helen and husband, Jack, Jr. did not themselves attend college, they committed to funding and supporting all five of their children to get college degrees.

Helen is predeceased by her parents, her husband, John “Jack” L. Boor, Jr, two brothers, Orlen Smith and Curtis Smith, four sisters, Verda Alexander,  Georgiana Smith, Kathleen Cline, Phyllis Crites, and two grandchildren, Angela Marie Ball and John Michael Ball.  She is survived by her sister, Joan Hott and sister in laws, Phyllis Oates Smith and Norma Boor Lienellyn; sons, John Boor, III and wife, Margaret, Thomas Boor and wife, Judy, three daughters, Brenda Sites and husband, Robert, Carole Ball and husband, Michael, Bonnie Hahn and husband, Harry and 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Helen was a member of the Petersburg Presbyterian Church where she served in deacon and elder roles.  She had a firm faith and relationship with her Lord which was always growing and changing in her life’s walk.

Helen’s lifetime calling was fulfilled.  She was a loving mother who was always teaching and training her children. Helen’s grandchildren always received a measure of love from their G-Mom.  She and her husband, Jack, Jr., were able to attend the high school graduation for all 11 grandchildren.

The family sincerely thanks Dr. Mary Rudyk and staff of Wilmington, N.C. for 18 years of outstanding medical care and Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center and Grant Memorial Hospice Services for their special comfort care to Helen Boor.

God greatly blessed the Boor children and family with the wonderful life of Helen M. Boor.
