Guy E. Mongold, Jr.

Guy Earl Mongold, Jr., 94, of Ellicott City, MD passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, at Bridging Life Dove House.

Born March 17, 1927, in Dorcas, WV, he was the son of the late Guy E. Sr., and Janet Sites Mongold. He was the loving husband of Barbara Mitchell Mongold, his wife of 68 years.

Guy joined the Navy in 1945 and achieved the rank of Yeoman Third Class. After his Naval service, he earned his undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He spent his working career as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Defense Electronics Division.

In his younger years, Guy enjoyed golf, hunting in the hills of WV, and was an avid reader. After his retirement, his passion was researching genealogy and published his comprehensive book of the Mongold family lineage at the age of 87.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Sandra J. Garrison of Pennsburg, PA, Gregg A. Mongold and wife Stacey of Sykesville, MD, and Karen L. Glock and husband David of Westminster, MD; sister Janet Sue Swisher of Austin, TX; grandchildren Ethan Garrison and wife Katelin, Colin Garrison, Erin Garrison, Jessica Mongold, Emily Mongold, Bryan Glock and wife Amanda, Jennifer Glock, Emmit Glock, and Kelsey Glock; great-grandchild Kirra Glock.

He was predeceased by brother John A. Mongold.

The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 5pm – 7 pm at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 10 am at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Sites Cemetery, Dorcas, WV.
