Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Van Slyke, age 93 of Upper Tract, WV went to be with his Lord on Monday, October 16, 2023 at his home.
Jerry was born on October 27,1929 in Modesto, California and was the son of the late Wayne Taylor Van Slyke and Gladys Lucille (Robertson) Van Slyke.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Macie (Mowery) Van Slyke in 2020; one granddaughter, Talia Kristen Mongold.
Jerry is survived by two daughters, Jean P. Mongold of Mozer, WV and Nancy L. Cook and husband Darrell of Woodstock, VA; three grandchildren, Jordan Wayne Mongold and wife Victoria, Tiffany Smith and Luke Smith; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian N. Dorville of Manteca, CA and Audrey L. Hawthorne of Auburn, CA and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry served in the United States Navy for 22 ½ years and retired as Master Chief. He worked for the National Security Agency until retirement. Jerry was a member of United States Naval Cryptologic Veteran Association and Fleet Reserve Association. He was a member of Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 . Jerry was a member of Mt Horeb United Methodist Church.
Jerry’s family will receive friends Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 6 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Military Graveside service will be Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11 AM at the Lough Family Cemetery with the Rev. David Webb and Rev. Rita Beeman with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and United States Navy Honor Guard.
