Galen Berg

Delmas Galen Berg, age 74 of Maysville, WV passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at his home.   He was born on April 27, 1948 in Petersburg, WV and was a son of the late Rodney William Berg and Nora Ethel (Barger) Berg.

In addition to his parents, Galen was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Todd L. Thompson; three sisters, Geraldine Simmons, Betty Simonsen and Juanita Berg; two brothers, Forrest Berg and infant Wayne Berg; two brothers-in-law, Harry Reel and Don Simonsen; foster brother,Dennis Howard.   

Galen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine “Cathy” (Shreve) Berg; two sons, Scott E. Berg of Maysville, WV and Jeremy W. Berg of Maysville, WV; two daughters, Kelly Thompson (Ed Rexrode) of Maysville, WV and Miranda R. Berg (Mike Hesse) of Maysville, WV; five grandchildren;  seven great grandchildren;  three sisters, Alberta Reel of Moorefield, WV, Shirley (Frank) Schaefer of Archdale, NC and Karen (Tony) Kimble of Maysville, WV; two brothers, Verlin (Lois) Berg of Maysville, WV and Hetzel (Linda) Berg of Maysville, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Galen was a graduate of Petersburg High School.  He held various jobs, but mainly was a truck driver for multiple companies. He loved hunting, fishing and watching old westerns. Galen was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Maysville, WV.

Family will receive friends Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 6 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

Funeral service will be 1 PM Sunday, June 26, 2022 in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home  with Pastor Gary Crislip and Pastor Rodney Sites officiating.  Interment will be in Maysville Cemetery.
